My sister got married today. The one who had the transplant 4 1/2 years ago.

So, my baby sister is graduating from High School in about three weeks (OMG!) and I've decided to make a picture slide-show of the munchkin using any and ALL pictures I can find (including ALL the ones of her looking dorky--:D). Anyway, I'm getting the pictures easily enough but I'm now trying to find songs to use. I don't just want the one song, I'm gonna WMM several into a medely of sorts. I already have one song chosen, that's gonna contain pictures of her and me (Pinky and the Brain, if you were wondering ;)) but I'm looking for suggestions for other songs. Funny, emotional, upbeat, slow, it doesn't matter as long as it kinda fits with graduation/growing up/sisterly bond.

If you do have suggestions, links to song downloads would also be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Holy smokes a US passport costs a bundle! Granted, I did expedite the hell out of it so I'll, you know, actually get it before Spring Break in March, but still! $230 bucks!

TO DO LIST
- PASSPORT
- FLIGHT
- Buy Starfest ticket
- Clean bedroom
- Buy bookcase
- Clean out closet
- Clean kitchen

And, thought you might like to see the MASSIVE list of books I'll be reading (and re-reading in some cases!) in the next 15 weeks:

I think I know why people say English majors are masochists... )

And to make matters worse... )

All of this in 15 weeks? Someone shoot me now!

In other news, I completely forgot how much I enjoy classes with Baker. He's blunt and a hardass but very understanding and an absolute hoot! We were discussing if everyone knew everyone else (I knew three of the other five students) and he was like,

Baker: I know Jade, this is the...fourth? class she's taken with me. I think she and Alice hold the record for students taking classes with me.
Jade: Uh huh, starting with right before freshman year. 3 weeks of 102 hell.
Baker: Yeah, so when you're cursing all the reading all you got to remember is that at least its not 15 weeks crammed into 3 like English 102 was.
Jade: This is very true.

And when we were introducing ourselves, he was like:

Baker: Are you still working on your novel?
Jade: Which one?
Baker: You've done more than one? Wait, what am I saying, of course you have, you're a great writer. *to rest of class* If you need a paper written, I don't condone this but Jade is the one to go to if you want an A.
Jade: Thanks. ... I think.

And then me and Jon got to mentioning the English department field trip to the rare books collection up at CU: Boulder and how there was a MASSIVE drug bust in the hotel parking lot as we were waiting for Baker and Mazel to get our room keys.

So far, my first week has been...an experiance.

Also, last thing: Guess who's little sister got her acceptance letter to Adams State College this afternoon, thus making her the first one to get accepted anywhere in her class? *grins* So, so proud of her!

I just got off the phone with my parents. My dad called cause apparently he finally realized we weren't kidding when my mom, sister, and I were discussing me moving to the UK after graduation in a year.

Dad: You're moving to England?!
Me: *patiently* Yes, Daddy, I've been telling you this for a month or so now.
Dad: You can't move to England.
Me: *still patient* Why not?
Dad: Cause I'm gonna have you arrested.
Me: *not so patient* For what?!
Dad: Stealing my heart.
Me: *snerks*
Dad: I'm serious!
Me: I know you are, which is why I'm laughing.
Dad: You can't move to England! What if you and Daniel don't get along and break up?
Me: I'm not moving to England for Daniel, I'm moving to England cause I've wanted to live there since I was a little girl. I'd probably have gone even without my boyfriend living there.
Dad: You have? Since when?!
Me: *slowly* Since I was a little girl. Pay attention!
Dad: Its too far away, you can't go.
Me: Daddy, its better than New York, right?**
Dad: *swiftly* Hell yeah! But you're still not moving to England!
Me: Sure, Daddy. Whatever you say, Daddy.
Dad: Are you being sarcastic? (to my mother) I think she's being sarcastic.
Me: *laughs*

**My Dad has an hypocritical fear of me living anywhere in the state of New York--I say hypocritical cause he was raised up state.

A few minutes after that, my mom got on the phone.

Me: Has Daddy completely lost his mind?
Mom: *without hesitation* Yes. He's already called your uncle to get him to start telling horror stories about when he lived in England with the Air Force.
Me: Didn't Uncle Pat love living in England?
Mom: Which is why your dad's plan has backfired spectacularly--your uncle is very excited about you moving to England. He'll have a legitimate reason to visit.
Me: *laughs*

My dad's been sick. Having issues with his breathing, his blood pressure, they put him on oxygen right after my birthday, gave him meds--but now we have some definite answers.

His diaphragm collapsed. Which, you know, no one at home bothered to tell me--once again, I found out through flippin Twitter!

And, again, through Twitter, I found out that his x-rays of his lungs show spots. The docs want to do more tests to determine if its cancer.

I don't know what I'm going to do.

Thought you all might find this interesting--its my sister's college essay.

Fifteen and Suffocating )

So, I said before my cousin Justin, my sister, Katie, and I had been planning on going around with the kids but that changed--Justin had to go to Denver to get his apartment and Mandy and Trish decided to go out with the kids themselves. So Katie went to a party instead. I ended up staying in at my aunt and uncle's house.

Every Halloween, they host what a Potato Bar, which is basically for adults and kids to warm up or calm down. They provide baked potatoes with lots of toppings (including my aunts amazing green chilli) as well as drinks and chips and dips. Its pretty much open to all the family and friends.

My aunt gave me the task, since I was quote, "so nicely dressed up" to hand out the candy at the door. So, I kinda commandeered a chair by the door (there was a surprising amount of kids out this year, since its actually pretty nice for Halloween--its usually a LOT colder). When I wasn't handing out candy and/or sitting in the arm chair, I was running around as the "unofficial" photographer" of the whole shindig.

It got pretty crowded for a while, with the kids all there, the adults all there, and everyone hanging out and having a good time. We had a couple old-school scary movies going on the TV (as well as the football games--they kept switching channels so I stopped trying to actually pay attention to the movies, lol), and we had a lot of conversations going at once, it was great.

Brian Flynn came around with his daughter T&Ting and we invited them to come in after they finished, which they did. This ended with me getting a shadow for the remainder of the night in the form of an adorable 5 year old dressed as a "witch fairy" (she was adamant about the distinction). She helped me hand out candy and at one point, cuddled into my lap as we waited for some new T&Ters

Cut for BIG Pictures )

So...How was everyone elses Halloween?

Extra Note: NANO starts here in about 2 hours--OMFG, I NEED A PLOT!

Halloween!

So what is everyone going as?

I was planning on going as a Lady Pirate and then realized my costume more closely resembled a tavern waitress from the same time period. So I decided to run with that, which is good cause its already getting to the lower spectrum of the temperature (its currently 29F and tomorrow's high is 61F--as you can imagine, this Arizona raised girl is not pleased with this). I was not relishing the idea of walking around in thin leggings and boots while at class tomorrow. One ankle length black skirt from my choir days and a lovely purple scarf and TADA! Totally different and much warmer costume. :D

I'll probably go looking for my old cape cause I can probably get away with that to help keep me warm on Sunday night when I go trick or treating with my sister, my cousin Justin, and his neices and nephews. We volunteered to take em out--a 25 year old, a 32 year old, and one 18 year old versus five munchkins, possibly more, on Halloween night.

Somehow, I'm afraid that's probably not going to end well since Justin often acts like a 5 year old and my sister's not much better.

I will post pictures probably Sunday.

But the question remains--what are all of YOU going as and what are you plans?
jadelyntate: (mmpr)
And guess what? I FINALLY HAVE PICTURES!

... for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before the Con. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be in a seperate post as will all my con photos, just cause I'm awesome like that. :D

SUPER IMAGE HEAVY BUT WORK-SAFE!!! )
jadelyntate: (mmpr)
So, my vacation officially started Thursday morning. Me, being the insane-crazy-idiot I can sometimes be, went to bed at about 1am Thursday morning. I was woken up two hours later at 3am and were on the road by 4:10am.

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhh. Jade sleep in car, please, kthanx.

The drive through NM to AZ was fun. I will post pics later. Much much later.

Today, to kill time before we could check into the hotel in AZ, we visited family. My cousin had a baby a little over a week ago--I held him for most of the first visit and a good portion of the second. I also played with Nicholas' two year old sister and five year old cousin--they were so cute and adorable and sweet! Then we stopped by and said hi to [personal profile] purplestripe66 at work. At first we kinda looked at each other cause we weren't sure (in my defense, she was wearing a HAT and I've never seen her in a hat) but then realized hey! Its her!

Then there was hugs. Ruby gives the best hugs. :D And from the excited chatter, I think my dad figured out we're both excited for our trip!

Introduced the family, discussed a few things. Dad admitted he was gonna stalk her house tomorrow so he knows where he's going Sunday morning when we pick her up (am hoping [personal profile] tsukino_akume is there so I can say hi on Sunday morning). I am also supposed to call and make sure Ruby is actually awake before we leave.

Afterwards we went back to visit with family some more and surprised my aunt and uncle, who did not know we were coming.

Then I got a shock. When I was fourteen, I really wanted my grandmothers jewelry box. It'd been passed from oldest daughter to oldest daughter and when grandma died, it went to my aunt. She doesn't have kids though so she decided it was going to me. I'm not technically the oldest girl but...yeah. My aunt and mom agreed I would take better care of it than my cousin. So I got the jewelry box while visiting her. My sister got a turqiose bracelet that originally belonged to our great great grandmother.

Tomorrow is my uncle again and then [profile] clex_monki89 for visiting and quite possibly another kidnapping attempt. >.< Also? FOOOOOOD! Then Sunday we head out to California.

I was gonna do more in depth posts about the trip and I'll try once we get to California (Ruby can help!) but am too tired. I will have pictures eventually. :D
jadelyntate: (Lorneismymajor)
So, when I revised my essay on [personal profile] clex_monkie89 and I's friendship, I ended up adding, like, four pages. It's kinda crazy. Therefore...TADA! New version!

Essay behind the cut )
jadelyntate: (Default)
This was probably the hardest essay I've ever written.

Tissue warning )
jadelyntate: (studying)
So, yesterday, I finished 2 1/2 pages on Fanfiction for my creative non-fiction class.

Then I went online and played World of Warcraft.

Four hours later, I got off to go see the afternoon viewing of Twilight: Eclipse with my parents and sister. It was a good movie. Its not my favorite of the summer so far but I enjoyed it. Jacob was hilarious. My sister and I did get laughed at though cause when Boo Boo came on the screen, we both squealed. BooBoo plays Seth and he's a friend of Katie's. We're all very proud of him (and he's the ONLY reason my dad agreed to see Eclipse instead of the A-Team, something BooBoo's dad finds hilarious).

So, you know, I got home at about 8 (we stopped at Sonic so Katie could see the boyfriend). I got online, checked a few things, then got off Dillon, got on Ethan* (wow, that sounds dirty >.<) and played WoW until about 2:30am.

I woke up at about 10, wrote 2 1/2 pages more (this time on Power Rangers). Now I'm debating on going onto play WoW again.

I need a WoW icon.

Yes, I'm addicted, shut up. :)

*Ethan is the name I've settled on my new desktop since its primarily so I can game and not worry about destroying all my homework.

sick

jadelyntate: (Friday)
So, this morning, I got woken up by my mama, who was slightly freaking out. She tried calling me a dozen times yesterday and several times last night. I called my dad yesterday morning at, oh, 8am? to find out if PeptoBismal goes bad cause I've NEVER been as sick as I was the last couple days and that was the only thing I was taking, med wise.

So, you know, I was passed out on and off pretty much the last two/three days. I still feel incredibly ooky but my mama is cleaning my apartment and stripping my bed and generally doing the mama thing cause she made me fall off the couch when she knocked (I've been sleeping on the couch the last few days/nights cause my living room is the coolest and darkest room in the house baring the bathroom). That and she says she doesn't think she's seen me this sick since I got food poisoning two days in a row when I was seven.

So, at the moment, I'm focusing on not getting any more dehydrated than I already am. Hopefully the world has not ended while I'm feeling like shit. Anything in particular I missed?
jadelyntate: (Friday)
If I say that enough, it might actually come true.

So, every Monday I babysit a seven and two six year olds (all boys). Harry, the oldest, was not feeling well Monday so I basically brought my Super Smash Brothers Melee game and let him go at it. He was feeling slightly better by the time his mom got home but his throat still hurt.

Cindy, his mom, called me today. Harry has Strep A. Which, according to what she told me, is the worse of the kinds you can get.

I have three weeks left of class and then finals. If I get Strep, I will not be pleased.

Edit: Also? Last night I got a surprise!roommate for the last three weeks of class. She was an RA that is taking a leave of absense to focus on classwork.

So, last night, I did an emergency clean of my apartment that ended only when I gouged a hole in my pinky cleaning a mirror. It took me over an hour to get it to stop bleeding completely.

Reason #1) They turned my PMC2 trip into a family vacation so I don't have to spend as much and will be in California for a week instead of three days.

Reason #2) When my dad mentioned our hotel sleeps 6, I asked for clarification. He didn't bat an eye before asking "Why, you got a friend who needs a place to crash for the Con?" He then agreed to pick up [personal profile] purplestripe66 on our way through AZ, let her crash with us in California, and drop her back off on our way home.

So, Ruby will be coming with us because she won't have to spend a gazillion dollars for, like, three days. I

Power Morphicon needs to be, like, now. *nods firmly*

My parents are having my brother fix our explorer before they leave so guess who's going over today?

If ya'll don't hear from me in the next few days, its because I was arrested for strangling him.

...

In other news, I realized something...quirky...today. My HS went to state in 1998, 1999, and 2005 for boys basketball. They have their regionals game today to determine if they're going this year. The quirky thing is I just realized my cousin Mandy was a senior in '98, my cousin Trish was a senior in '99, I was a senior in '05, and my sister is a senior now (she won't be graduating but she's considered a senior).

Should be interesting to see if they go to State again.
jadelyntate: (squish)
We knew he and his wife were planning on moving back to North Carolina on the 15th. They have a lot of reasons for leaving and none of them are true. It's okay, I've pretty much used to them using every excuse in the book for why they don't spend time with us and whatnot.

What they did today, though, takes the cake.

They informed my parents and Katie they're leaving Monday. Katie has regionals to go to tomorrow and Troy's funeral/memorial is Sunday (her ex boyfriend died recently).

They were going to leave without saying goodbye or giving us a chance to say goodbye to my nephew.

The thing is, I should have expected it eventually. My brother almost never follows through on anything. They say one thing and then turn around and do another. When he moved here two years ago, I thought things might actually change. That'd he grown up.

I was wrong. Katie is more mature than he is and if you knew my sister, that says a lot.

So I allowed myself to get close to Devin, to love him, and care for him, and think I'd actually get the chance to watch one of my nephews grow up.

But the worst part isn't even that they're leaving. They didn't bother to call me. I had to find out on freakin TWITTER when Katie posted about it.
