So, a RL friend and I are both Sherlock BBC fans (she got me into it, damn her). As I mentioned on Twitter that we've been spending our lunch break planning a fic where, as an experiment, Sherlock decides to see what would happen if he sent anonymous love poems to John.

We've since decided that because he's Sherlock and Mrs. Hudson is the co-conspirator, all of them are gonna be Shakespeare sonnets. So B and I are going through our anthologies, going through the sonnets, and messaging back and forth with ones that are very perfect for the boys.

Only every so often we come to sonnets or lines that remind us of the Episode Which Shall Not Be Named and...grrr.

Sonnet 88, lines 10-11
For bending all my loving thoughts on thee,
The injuries that to myself I do.

So far, we have a little over half a dozen sonnets chosen mostly because we keep getting distracted by the epic fangirl flailing of each other. :)

So, some of you may or may not have seen this on facebook/Twitter.

All last week I felt like crap; nauseated, dizzy, really bad stomach aches, etc. I didn't think much of it because some bugs been going around.

Last Saturday I started coughing up blood. That's when I started worrying. However, since I couldn't afford a trio to the ER, I went to the doctor on Monday, which is infinitely cheaper.

The blood was most likely from the gagging/throwing up--my doctor thinks I probably burst a blood vessel in my throat or stomach, which isn't all that unusual with severe coughing and vomiting.

However, the tenderness of my tummy, coupled with everything else, concerned him. So he did a bunch of tests and I spent most of Monday getting poked and prodded and running around town trying to get a prescription for less than $85.

I have an ulcer. Most likely it's cause of my caffeine and the stress I've been under recently. The stress I can't do much about except talk to one of the counselors, which I've done before. The caffeine, on the other hand, is something I CAN control and have: I've cut it out all together.

So far, I've gone through the headache of withdrawel and the exhaustion/jitteryness associated with not having any caffeine in two days. Instead of Mountain Dew, I've been drinking bottles of Gatorade.

Its...weird. And odd. But I'm surprisingly okay with not drinking Mountain Dew again. I've been wanting a really good reason I could use to force myself to stay away and this is as good as I'm liable to get. So I guess we'll see how this goes. :D

So, one of my New Years Resolutions was to start using DW again, rather than waiting and letting months go between posts. Another resolution is to start actually posting my fics other places than TTH and to become more involved with my friends lives--which includes commenting more frequently on posts.

I don't know how that;ll work but I suppose we'll see. :)

9-11

I don't often make these sorts of posts but here we go.

Ten years ago I was a high school sophomore. I was in Arizona and when the towers were hit in New York, I was asleep. I don't remember much about that day (besides the moment of silence around the flag pole at lunch) but I do remember how I first heard of the news—by walking into my Drivers Ed class and finding the teacher watching the news and students frantically calling friends and family from their cell phones. As you can probably imagine, school that day was a joke and it didn't surprise me in the least when the principal cancelled afternoon classes. The rest of the day was spent with my sister, my mom, and my cousin at her house, watching the news.

A lot of people in the US have found their lives affected, myself included. My cousin's husband was sent to Afghanistan and nearly died twice. Friends from high school have gone into service—half the graduating class from that year enlisted once commencement was done. People I knew as kids have died halfway across the world, defending a basic, fundamental right of all human beings—to simply live.

I ask this Sunday that my flist remember that and take a moment during the day to simply think about the people who aren't here now and the hole their deaths left in so many people.

Remember 9-11.

Remember the lost.

Never forget.

I was informed earlier today that I...can become emotionally stupid. I have this thing where if I thing where if I think someone is getting too close to the real me, I pull away and I pull away hard. Only a handful of people outside my immediate family have ever pulled back and made sure I realized I was being stupid. Two of them I've known since childhood and the third has a bipolar husband and is a stubborn little woman.

That said...I'd like to apologize. Since about Morphicon '10 I pulled away from fandom. I did so abruptly and fully and I know I left a ton of people in the lurch. I freaked out, plain and simple, and I shouldn't have. You guys are awesome, supportive, and amazing friends and I was an idiot.

So. I'm sorry.

Thanks for reading.

Moving out

So, after two years in this apartment, I'm moving out Thursday. In two years, I've accumulated, among many sundry things:

- a fish tank
- 2 dressers
- another bookcase
- a kitchen hutch
- a couch
- a tv center
- a mushroom chair
- an arm chair
- boxes upon boxes and bags upon bags of BOOKS!

We've slowly been taking boxes and bags and stuff back to my parents home for the last three weeks. Yesterday we loaded a TON of boxes and bags. Today went most of the furniture and almost a dozen storage tubs. The only two peices of furniture left are the mushroom chair and the tv center cause those are technically Angela's and she's coming down Thursday to get them.

Tonight I'm going to sweep/mop/wipe down the bathroom, finish my dishes and then sweep/mop/wipe down the kitchen, and sweep/mop my bedroom. Tomorrow, all I'll have left is the living room, which is currently filled with random things that were hiding behind or under various peices of furniture. This means tomorrow evening, after loading the jeep, I'll essentially be out of the apartment in every way but physically. :)

So, my baby sister is graduating from High School in about three weeks (OMG!) and I've decided to make a picture slide-show of the munchkin using any and ALL pictures I can find (including ALL the ones of her looking dorky--:D). Anyway, I'm getting the pictures easily enough but I'm now trying to find songs to use. I don't just want the one song, I'm gonna WMM several into a medely of sorts. I already have one song chosen, that's gonna contain pictures of her and me (Pinky and the Brain, if you were wondering ;)) but I'm looking for suggestions for other songs. Funny, emotional, upbeat, slow, it doesn't matter as long as it kinda fits with graduation/growing up/sisterly bond.

If you do have suggestions, links to song downloads would also be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

I got back into Colorado at 7:30pm last night as I ended up with an half hour delay due to the rain in LA (I feel for everyone there--I was only there two hours but it was INSANE!). I got home about 10:30pm and didn't even unpack, I just Passed. Out.

I then woke up at 6:30am. Go figure.

Anyway, England was absolutely amazing! Some people have probably already seen some of the pictures on my facebook but I posted only a few as I was waiting till I got back home to go through them all. Now, however, I've gone through most of them and have about 250 I'll be printing out and sticking in a photo album. I'm not posting all of them but I thought some of you on my flist might like to see some.

I'm going to put this in separate posts to help with length and the image loads. First up, our trip to the British Museum, then the Doctor Who Experience in London, followed by Historical Tourist Sights in London, my day trip to Cardiff, Wales, and finally, Glastonbury Tor and Caerphilly Castle and Wells Cathedral.

That's the plan, anyway.

The British Museum, Home of the Rosetta Stone )

There were other sections but you could visit different parts every day for a week and still not have seen everything they have. Since we only had an afternoon, we spent our entire visit in the two sections I was most interested in (Daniel's insistance, not mine).

I haven't played Texas Hold Em in years but I decided, you know, its my senior year, lets go check out the club poker night.

Guess who won the tourney?

For Christmas, Daniel bought me a 24 carat gold ring. Gorgeous ring, absolutely beautiful.

I wear it on my middle finger, cause its kinda loose on my ring finger. Only tonight, I wore it on my ring finger cause I had all the other rings I typically wear on and I have matching rings that I usually have on my middle fingers. We were at a Brian Flynn concert at the Brewery, a restaurant and bar (awesome, awesome show, will put up videos/pictures later).

Guess who got home, went to take off her jewelry and realized her ring was missing?

Yeah, I just spent half an hour crying and panicking and turning my room upside down in the vain hope it fell off in here.

My sister called my mom and asked her to look in the car when they got home.

My mom just called and said they found it.

Tomorrow, I'm buying a chain to wear it around my neck when I'm feeling like wearing my other rings. *nods firmly*

Guess what I've gotten back into recently? Cross-stitching!

I've been making various ranger helmets (as seen before) but now I've also gone into Doctor Who, making a full on bookmark for myself!

I also have an SPD bookmark I'm incredibly proud of!

Power Rangers first )

And now for the Doctor Who bookmark! )

So, what does everyone think?

Occasionally, while in class, someone will say something that just...its either so out there everyone cracks up or its just so funny everyone cracks up. When that happens, I usually write it down to post on twitter later.

I was going through my notebook, cleaning out the notes I don't need anymore. Here are some of the gems I found:

"Only an English Major could find a way to correct the grammar in a silent movie." -Kat

*looking at a DVD cover*
"Did I see subtitles?!" *rest of class laughs* "Seriously, I don't understand how you can have subtitles in a silent movie!" - Melissa

"Word choice is just as important as grammar. Otherwise you get sentences like this" *puts sentence on screen* "They appointed the blind blonde girl head life girl." - Dr. Mac

"That sounds horrible!" - student
"Its your sentence!" - Dr. Mac

*going over intensifier verbs*
"This is the first time I've tried that and no one said 'quite'." - Dr. Mac
"That's too British, man." - Fonz

"You know you're getting old when you get fed up with the younger generations slang words." - Student
"Amen." - Dr. Mac

*about the phrase "my bad"*
"I tried saying that but it wouldn't come out." - Dr. Mac

*goes on a tangent on how he likes the word 'aint' cause its so flexible*
"...what were we discussing again? I completely lost my train of thought." -Dr. Mac
"Aint that the pits?" - Student

*student gives his sentence*
"'The penguins that waddled are freezing.'" - Student gives his sentence
*Is there any other kind of waddling? ... Don't answer that." - Dr. Mac

"If I ask you to give me the sentence tense on the final, first you're going to cuss me out, and then you're going to answer the question." - Dr. Mac.

This past summer, the college changed their email server to a specialized gmail account and as of...I want to say September? They stopped forwarding all the emails going to the old account names.

So if you've been emailing me at allaartcm@adams.edu in the last four months or so...I didn't get them. I'm so sorry!

The new address is allaartcm@grizzlies.adams.edu. Thanks!

One of my professors told us that if any of us could logically get Glee into one of our term papers, he'd give us five extra credit points. Technically, this is for another class but...HEE!

Then & Now: A Study of Religion in American Pop Culture
Rough thesis/outline

From the very beginning of the United States, religion has been a founding principle of the nation and as such, has appeared in every media outlet we've created. From the “History of the Miraculous Apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe in 1531” to the recent episode of Glee, “Grilled Cheesus,” religion has been an integral part of our popular culture. Though the main media of the nations has changed, religion and the freedom to express our religion is as much part of our everyday lives now as it was in the sixteen and seventeen hundreds.

Section One:
“Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” compared/contrasted with 7th Heaven (different viewpoints on how God should be viewed—angry or benevolent).

Section Two:
“History of the Miraculous Apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe in 1531” compared/contrasted with Glee's “Grilled Cheesus” episode (religion is shown in many forms)

Section Three:
“A Narrative of the Captivity & Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson” compared/contrasted with “Joan of Arcadia” (the belief that God only gives you as much as He knows you can handle)

In other news? 24 hours after I began the WoW update patch, its at 71% completed. *facepalms*

Birthday Haul:
- Castle, season 2 (from parents)
- Power Rangers pillow (from parents)
- Tenth Doctor action figure (from Daniel)
- Toy Sonic Screwdriver (from Daniel)
- Stuffed teddy bear (from Daniel)

Christmas presents I opened a month early cause I'm WAY impatient and the boyfriend is kind of a push-over >.> <.< :
- Pink PR COMMUNICATOR
- Mighty Morphin MORPHER!

My birthday went surprisingly well. It was mostly quiet (except for the Skype convo with Daniel at my parents house--between him and my sister, wow, I laughed a LOT!).

My dad's been having blood pressure issues so it was pretty tense on that front all weekend--at one point, his blood pressure was...something over 109, which is really not good. He had a doctor's appointment on Saturday and they doubled his meds, which seem to be helping a lot and he has another doctors appointment today so...

I got a TON of birthday wishes on Facebook, including one from Paul Schrier (Bulk) with the pic of the two of us from Morphicon but he added a party hat to my head. It was sweet. :D

Today was pretty quiet as I mostly lounged around and cleaned (and discovered that apparently Sky was hiding in his zord and I totally didn't realize it...O.o). I didn't, technically, finish cleaning but its good enough for now. At least I don't have foot high piles of paper on my desk anymore...

And that was my 25th birthday weekend. Low-key but better than the last few years. But then again, ever since my grandmother died on my 14th, my birthdays are almost ALWAYS quiet.
jadelyntate: (Squee)
So, first things first, I turn 25 on Friday (Nov. 12th). I have plans to go to dinner with my parents and sister. They're taking me to my favorite Chinese place. That's about it. :) A quiet day.

Daniel (the boyfriend) sent me a package. Inside, separately wrapped, were five presents, a letter, and a card. Three were for my birthday and two are for Christmas.

Daniel knows how much I've fallen in love with Doctor Who so he bought me a Sonic Screwdriver toy, the Tenth Doctor action figure, and a teddy bear! And yes, I realize its not technically my birthday yet, I'm impatient, shush! :p

The two Christmas presents (which I'm not allowed to open until December 25th, *pouts*), I'm pretty sure, are PR related. Feeling em, I might be wrong but I'm almost positive the one is a communicator.

A POWER RANGERS COMMUNICATOR!

HOLY SHIT!

The other might be a morpher but I'm not sure what season. From the general feel...I think, POSSIBLY, its one of his MM ones. Again, not too sure though and I don't want to get my hopes up cause I would LOVE an MM morpher.

I honestly don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, they're the perfect gifts for me as they're ALL to my general likes and obsessions. On the other, I've never had a guy go to such lengths to find the perfect gift for me. O.o It feels very...quixotic.

In other news, the Crossing Over Awards winners have been announced. Tales from Atlantis won Best Comedy by over a 100 votes and came in second place for Best Crossover overall and came in third for Best Stargate Crossover. Second Verse, Same as the First, came in fifth for Best Stargate Cross. They also announced the top nominated authors and I tied with another author for sixth place, with 15 nominations. I'm ecstatic about all this! :)

So far, my birthday week is off to a great start!

So, I said before my cousin Justin, my sister, Katie, and I had been planning on going around with the kids but that changed--Justin had to go to Denver to get his apartment and Mandy and Trish decided to go out with the kids themselves. So Katie went to a party instead. I ended up staying in at my aunt and uncle's house.

Every Halloween, they host what a Potato Bar, which is basically for adults and kids to warm up or calm down. They provide baked potatoes with lots of toppings (including my aunts amazing green chilli) as well as drinks and chips and dips. Its pretty much open to all the family and friends.

My aunt gave me the task, since I was quote, "so nicely dressed up" to hand out the candy at the door. So, I kinda commandeered a chair by the door (there was a surprising amount of kids out this year, since its actually pretty nice for Halloween--its usually a LOT colder). When I wasn't handing out candy and/or sitting in the arm chair, I was running around as the "unofficial" photographer" of the whole shindig.

It got pretty crowded for a while, with the kids all there, the adults all there, and everyone hanging out and having a good time. We had a couple old-school scary movies going on the TV (as well as the football games--they kept switching channels so I stopped trying to actually pay attention to the movies, lol), and we had a lot of conversations going at once, it was great.

Brian Flynn came around with his daughter T&Ting and we invited them to come in after they finished, which they did. This ended with me getting a shadow for the remainder of the night in the form of an adorable 5 year old dressed as a "witch fairy" (she was adamant about the distinction). She helped me hand out candy and at one point, cuddled into my lap as we waited for some new T&Ters

Cut for BIG Pictures )

So...How was everyone elses Halloween?

Extra Note: NANO starts here in about 2 hours--OMFG, I NEED A PLOT!

Halloween!

So what is everyone going as?

I was planning on going as a Lady Pirate and then realized my costume more closely resembled a tavern waitress from the same time period. So I decided to run with that, which is good cause its already getting to the lower spectrum of the temperature (its currently 29F and tomorrow's high is 61F--as you can imagine, this Arizona raised girl is not pleased with this). I was not relishing the idea of walking around in thin leggings and boots while at class tomorrow. One ankle length black skirt from my choir days and a lovely purple scarf and TADA! Totally different and much warmer costume. :D

I'll probably go looking for my old cape cause I can probably get away with that to help keep me warm on Sunday night when I go trick or treating with my sister, my cousin Justin, and his neices and nephews. We volunteered to take em out--a 25 year old, a 32 year old, and one 18 year old versus five munchkins, possibly more, on Halloween night.

Somehow, I'm afraid that's probably not going to end well since Justin often acts like a 5 year old and my sister's not much better.

I will post pictures probably Sunday.

But the question remains--what are all of YOU going as and what are you plans?
jadelyntate: (TARDIS)
So, this summer, I bought a desktop from the school (nicknamed Ethan). I've used him ONLY for playing World of Warcraft and the occasional movie when I have to use my laptop for something else. I paid $250 in June and about a month or so ago, it started acting funny when it came to the mouse.

I spybotted and virus-checked it to death and it came back clean everytime. Looking online, I found something that sounded like it might be the problem so I decided to call computing services here on campus since they were the ones who sold me the computer in the first place.

Then school and life interfered and I forgot about it.

Now, however, I've decided its time I got off my ass and get it fixed. So I called Computing Services and explained the problem and if I could bring in the tower to have it looked out.

They told me it sounds like a hardware problem. They don't work on hardware problems. They told me to bring it in on Tuesday and they'll double-check. I'm hoping that since they were the ones who sold the damn thing to me that they'll help fix it even if it is hardware; if not, I'm going to have to take it to someone in town and that'll probably cost me.

*sighs*

And to think, I was so happy that I just finished paying off all my bills for this month!
