Summary: Jason was sent by a demon; Eric came because he was an overprotective SOB. 50 drabbles.
A/N: So, uh, a shorter collection of drabbles pertaining to just how Jason and Eric ended up at the Cleveland House. Each drabble is between 100 and 200 words.
Revealing
“Alice?”
“I don't know how I'm suddenly so strong!”
Eric simply stared at her. After hiding it for so long, he wasn't terribly surprised she'd finally broken. “Your sudden strength was not what I was going to ask about but now that you've mentioned it...”
Alice paled. “You didn't know?”
“I didn't say that,” he told her. “Wes and I figured it out a while ago. We were just waiting for you to come to us.”
“Took you long enough,” Wes added from the doorway, his voice dry. “We were starting to think you didn't trust us.”
Alice whimpered as Eric shot his partner an amused look.
“And that comment right there is an example of why your dad thinks I'm a bad influence on you.”
Remembering Katie
“So you knew all along?”
“One of our teammates, Katie, the yellow ranger,” Wes said. “She was really strong too.”
“How strong?”
“Really strong,” Wes said wryly, wincing at some remembered pain. “She had to be very careful about how she held things.”
Eric snickered at the look on Alice's face. He might be really worried about her sudden special powers but she could be really funny when she didn't mean to.
“Alice, the point is,” Wes said, shooting Eric a look, “we don't care you're suddenly different. We're just worried about why you're suddenly different. In our experience, sudden strength isn't always a good thing.”
“Its not just sudden strength.”
Insomnia
“Alright, so, strength, reflexes, speed, and enhanced healing I don't want to know how you figured out,” Eric summed up. He ignored Wes' snicker. “Anything else?”
She bit her lip. “Dreams?” she asked more than stated. “And really weird insomnia.”
“How is your insomnia weird?” Wes asked, leaning forward. Eric was more concerned about the dreams.
“I sleep for four hours a night and can't sleep anymore,” she answered, looking at her feet. “And it takes a while for me to get to sleep too. It's like...I feel like I should be up and doing something and I have a really bad feeling that something is fighting.” Eric looked at her sharply.
“Fighting?”
Dreams
“My dreams,” she admitted. “They're...they're more like...memories.”
“Memories?” Eric demanded.
“Memories of women like me,” she told him and it all seemed to come out in a rush. “They have all my new powers, they're all young, and they fight monsters at night. There's one, a blonde, she's been showing up through a lot of them. She fought this cyborg human...thing and there was another one where she had a giant snake chasing her and then she faced this thing that looked like an evil preacher on steroids with black eyes...”
“What kind of monsters?” Wes asked. She turned suddenly close-mouthed and Eric frowned.
“Alice,” he warned. She shot to her feet, moving away.
“It doesn't matter,” she said angrily, wiping at her eyes. “What matters is that I'm a freak!”
Freak
Alice refused to look at Eric and Wes.
“Hey,” Eric tapped her chin, forcing her to look at him. “This isn't something to be ashamed of, got it? We'll figure this out.”
“I'm a freak!” she exclaimed, fighting her tears. “You fought freaks, mutants, like me! You told me so!”
“No,” Eric said swiftly. Alice crossed her arms and stared at him. He stared back, apparently unimpressed. “We fought mutants who wanted to change the time-line, do evil things. Do you want to do evil things?”
She shook her head, frowning. “No.”
“Change the time-line to serve your needs?”
“You're delusional.” She ignored Wes' snicker in favor of Eric's smile.
“See? Not evil.”
The Scoobies Are Coming!
“Jason!”
“Hey Svetlana,” he greeted the young girl. She started babbling at him in Russian. It was only because he'd had a Russian suite mate at the Peace Conference that he could follow every other word she said. Alexi had babbled too when he got excited, which was often.
“Buffy Summers is coming to Cleveland?” he asked once she slowed down.
“And the rest of the Scoobs,” Faith agreed, coming inside the house. Jason had gotten them keys the last time one of the girls had come over after patrol and woken him up. They seemed to think his house was there's.
“They want to meet me?” he asked and Faith nodded. “Angel coming?”
“Yeah,” Faith agreed. She'd told Jason the full Lorne and Angel tale a couple weeks back. “Red's got her panties in a twist about something so B decided to bring her to Cleveland to distract her.”
“What's the problem?”
“Seems like there's a Slayer in Paris that Red can't sense,” she shrugged. “We only know about her cause of the demon intel lines.”
Jason winced. A Slayer without guidance. That sounded bad even to him.
The girls
“What are you doing?” Faith asked as Jason dropped two boxes in the kitchen. “What is all this stuff?”
“I have no idea,” he told her, smirking. “It's the girls crap that seems to have made a home at my place.”
Robin laughed softly as he came inside, wrapping an arm around Faith's waist. “I warned you about that when you gave everyone a key,” he told him. Jason smiled wryly cause, yeah, Robin had. The other man cleared his throat. “Speaking of which, I overheard Svetlana and Aiko discussing about moving in with you permanently if Buffy agrees.”
Jason stared at them, wide-eyed. Faith cackled at his expression as Robin chuckled.
“If you could take one or two of the girls, actually, that would open us for two more senior slayers,” Robin added. “Think about it, at least.”
Buffy
“Girls, front and center!” Faith barked as the car parked in driveway. Through the window, Jason could just see that it had way more people than Robin had told him to expect.
“They already are front and center, Faith,” Jason said, turning back to the group he knew. A few of the girls snickered as Robin coughed.
“Hey F.”
The girls went remarkably silent and still at the blonde in the doorway's. Faith smirked. “Hey, B.”
“This him?”
“Yup. Lorne sent him to us. He still won't tell us what he was forced to sing.”
“And that is one secret that will die with me,” Jason interjected dryly. “Jason Scott.”
The blonde smiled. “Buffy Summers,” she answered. She paused, a wry look on her face. “But you probably already knew that.”
“Had an inkling,” he agreed. He smirked. “The girls actually cleaned the house.”
They shared a grin as the mini-slayers all made affronted or embarrassed noises.
Where's Lorne?
“How was Lorne when you saw him?”
Jason looked at the former vampire currently sitting in his living room. After the initial meetings, the groups had split up. Since there wasn't enough space at the Cleveland house, Jason had opened his place for them to stay. Jason had wondered how long it would take Angel to ask.
“Pretty good,” he told him. “Opening up a karaoke club.”
“Where?”
“I can't tell you that,” he told him. Angel looked at him mulishly and Jason held up a hand. “I promised I'd only tell if we absolutely needed his advice. I don't break my word.”
Angel stared at him a few minutes before his shoulders slumped.
“I supposed I have to be grateful you're not breaking his confidence,” Angel said. “It tells me more than Robin and Faith did.”
“Thanks,” Jason said. He frowned. “I think.”
Enough
Buffy watched as the two slayers, Svetlana and Aiko, tried dragging the new guy into the entertainment room. They wanted him to play pool with them and Sonja. From the way he was laughing, Buffy knew he wasn't really all that against it; he was just giving them a hard time.
Jason had talked to her and Giles the day before, in private, about joining the council. He wanted to train to be a watcher (he knew they were drastically short) and if worse came to worse, he assured him he had tricks up his sleeves come an apocalypse.
It was Faith's opinion, really, had that sealed the deal for Buffy. Giles was on board with the idea because of Robin but Faith...the brunette slayer liked him. Said he had guts and he honestly cared about what happened with the girls. It wasn't much but for someone like Faith—it was enough.
Which meant Buffy felt safe in leaving the slayers with him, Faith, and Robin as she, Willow, and Xander went hunting down a new Slayer in California.
