Sociophobia (I hide in little ways) {POEM}

-- in my apartment
not seeing the sun for days on end
so that I get confused when people
discuss the snowstorm that raged
this weekend outside my closed curtains

-- making excuses
to not have to go out to the bar
or club or restaurant
I say I have homework (I do)
I say I have a meeting (I do)
I say I am busy (I'm not)

-- spend hours online
chatting with friends I've never met
on the web friendships are easy
people like you only for how you act
best of all
you don't have to leave
the confines of your home

I don't want to turn into
a modern day Emily Dickinson
unable to leave the confines
of my home but it is hard to fight
to change your very nature

some days I don't think it can be done
