Story: Could Do Worse
Disclaimer: I own the idea only. Glee is owned by Fox. No suing please!
Summary: Kurt can't get the look Rachel shot him out of his head...
Rating: PG
Warning: Spoilers for 1x18 “Laryngitis”
A/N 1: Based on a small thing I noticed at the end of the episode. First time writing Glee...please be kind. Also, I don't watch AI so I mean no offense at the random comment.
Kurt couldn't sleep. With the insanity of the past week (and he was comfortable in admitting he may have gone slightly overboard in his jealousy of his father and Finn), he hadn't really considered much of what was going on with Rachel past the initial amusement.
The look she'd shot him at rehearsal though...
They'd been singing One by U2 which, while not one of personal favorites, he still found better than some of the other songs they'd done in the past. But it wasn't the song that was keeping him from getting the required eight hours to look as good as he did—it was the way Rachel had focused almost exclusively on him when she'd sang about sisters and brothers.
Rachel was...well, she wasn't Prada but she wasn't Miley Cyrus at Wal-Mart either. She was somewhere in between. Ever since Sectionals, ever since New Directions had formed really, she'd...changed. It'd been slow, of course, you couldn't have a fabulous fashion show without months of preparation, but he'd begun noticing something. She truly did care about the rest of Glee, even if she didn't often show it in the most sane way possible. And it wasn't just Finn, Puck, and Jesse, either; he'd caught her talking chords with Artie on more than one occasion, Les Miserables with Tina, and the latest episodes of American Idol with Mercedes (it was a general consensus that any one of the Glee members could do better than most of the current contestants combined).
The other day, before Puck lost his mohawk (an improvement if you asked him), Rachel and he had spent almost every class they had together discussing the fact RENT was coming to Cleveland. Rachel, of course, already had tickets and the day had culminated in her offering one to him—one of her fathers had had to pull out going and she couldn't get a refund.
He'd never had siblings and, unless his father actually did ask Carol to marry him, he likely never would. But, as he lay in bed staring at his ceiling, he admitted to himself that he wouldn't have minded having a sister like Rachel. She was off-putting, had no fashion sense, and was incredibly arrogant but...she was sweet (sometimes too sweet). She was talented. She loved many of the same things he did and she knew what it was like to not have a mother.
Yeah, he mused as sleep finally seemed kind enough to come claim him, he could do a lot worse than Rachel Berry for a sister.
