Thoughts on Graduating from University

In about two hours I will be a college graduate from Adams State College/University (they're officially changing the name on the 19th, go figure).

Its been a long 7 years and I'm not sure how I feel about it as I sit in my apartment and get ready. One second I'm bouncing cause I'm so excited and relieved and the next...the next I'm looking around and close to tears because...its over. I'm done.

I've been a student for over twenty years now and I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself.

Its weird, you know, graduating. You get so used to the idea that, yeah, I'm leaving campus for the summer but I'll be back in August. But when you graduate, you WON'T be back in August, you won't be back unless you decide to do something crazy and get another degree, a Masters or a doctorate.

I didn't feel like this when I graduated high school because I knew where I was going to be come August. I don't know that right now and...it terrifies me.

I don't like change.

I guess though, that in the end, change is inevitable. Everyone suffers from it, everyone goes through change at least once in their life. Its something I have to come to terms with.

But that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Sherlock, Shakespeare, and FIC

So, a RL friend and I are both Sherlock BBC fans (she got me into it, damn her). As I mentioned on Twitter that we've been spending our lunch break planning a fic where, as an experiment, Sherlock decides to see what would happen if he sent anonymous love poems to John.

We've since decided that because he's Sherlock and Mrs. Hudson is the co-conspirator, all of them are gonna be Shakespeare sonnets. So B and I are going through our anthologies, going through the sonnets, and messaging back and forth with ones that are very perfect for the boys.

Only every so often we come to sonnets or lines that remind us of the Episode Which Shall Not Be Named and...grrr.

Sonnet 88, lines 10-11
For bending all my loving thoughts on thee,
The injuries that to myself I do.

So far, we have a little over half a dozen sonnets chosen mostly because we keep getting distracted by the epic fangirl flailing of each other. :)

No Mountain Dew? What?!

So, some of you may or may not have seen this on facebook/Twitter.

All last week I felt like crap; nauseated, dizzy, really bad stomach aches, etc. I didn't think much of it because some bugs been going around.

Last Saturday I started coughing up blood. That's when I started worrying. However, since I couldn't afford a trio to the ER, I went to the doctor on Monday, which is infinitely cheaper.

The blood was most likely from the gagging/throwing up--my doctor thinks I probably burst a blood vessel in my throat or stomach, which isn't all that unusual with severe coughing and vomiting.

However, the tenderness of my tummy, coupled with everything else, concerned him. So he did a bunch of tests and I spent most of Monday getting poked and prodded and running around town trying to get a prescription for less than $85.

I have an ulcer. Most likely it's cause of my caffeine and the stress I've been under recently. The stress I can't do much about except talk to one of the counselors, which I've done before. The caffeine, on the other hand, is something I CAN control and have: I've cut it out all together.

So far, I've gone through the headache of withdrawel and the exhaustion/jitteryness associated with not having any caffeine in two days. Instead of Mountain Dew, I've been drinking bottles of Gatorade.

Its...weird. And odd. But I'm surprisingly okay with not drinking Mountain Dew again. I've been wanting a really good reason I could use to force myself to stay away and this is as good as I'm liable to get. So I guess we'll see how this goes. :D

I didn't want to vent my first post back for the new year but...grr.

Boys are stupid.

Boys are stupid and jerks and just big poopyheads.

Also, they have horrible grammar and spelling!

I need a mad icon. I don't have one. The above will have to suffice.

So, one of my New Years Resolutions was to start using DW again, rather than waiting and letting months go between posts. Another resolution is to start actually posting my fics other places than TTH and to become more involved with my friends lives--which includes commenting more frequently on posts.

I don't know how that;ll work but I suppose we'll see. :)

Power Morphicon

So, I woke up this morning and threw up. I wasn't feeling well but I went to class anyway because I wanted my quiz back and if you don't show up the day he hands them out, he won't give it back to you till finals week. Anyway, I spent an hour sitting in class, going over our quiz (85%!) and only half paying attention since A, I was fighting nausea, and B, I was anxious to get back to my apartment because Morphicon tickets went on sale when I got out. Despite what everyone was saying about Gold not selling out quick, I KNEW they would go faster than the head honcho's expected. Within an hour, at least 100 of the 200 had been sold.

I managed to get home in one piece and bought my ticket--$150 for Gold, plus $50 if I want to do the breakfast, $20 for the official shirt, etc. Its somewhat ridiculous. As Batgirl said, Gold alone is more than Dragoncon.

All I have to say is, the goodie bags better be morphenomenal, lol.

One side effect of this, however, is that we have our first guest confirmation--cause it'd be kinda hard to have "karate lesson with Steve Cardenas" without, you know, Steve Cardenas. :)

So, who else is going?

9-11

I don't often make these sorts of posts but here we go.

Ten years ago I was a high school sophomore. I was in Arizona and when the towers were hit in New York, I was asleep. I don't remember much about that day (besides the moment of silence around the flag pole at lunch) but I do remember how I first heard of the news—by walking into my Drivers Ed class and finding the teacher watching the news and students frantically calling friends and family from their cell phones. As you can probably imagine, school that day was a joke and it didn't surprise me in the least when the principal cancelled afternoon classes. The rest of the day was spent with my sister, my mom, and my cousin at her house, watching the news.

A lot of people in the US have found their lives affected, myself included. My cousin's husband was sent to Afghanistan and nearly died twice. Friends from high school have gone into service—half the graduating class from that year enlisted once commencement was done. People I knew as kids have died halfway across the world, defending a basic, fundamental right of all human beings—to simply live.

I ask this Sunday that my flist remember that and take a moment during the day to simply think about the people who aren't here now and the hole their deaths left in so many people.

Remember 9-11.

Remember the lost.

Never forget.

To My Flist

I was informed earlier today that I...can become emotionally stupid. I have this thing where if I thing where if I think someone is getting too close to the real me, I pull away and I pull away hard. Only a handful of people outside my immediate family have ever pulled back and made sure I realized I was being stupid. Two of them I've known since childhood and the third has a bipolar husband and is a stubborn little woman.

That said...I'd like to apologize. Since about Morphicon '10 I pulled away from fandom. I did so abruptly and fully and I know I left a ton of people in the lurch. I freaked out, plain and simple, and I shouldn't have. You guys are awesome, supportive, and amazing friends and I was an idiot.

So. I'm sorry.

Thanks for reading.

Finally saw The Doctor's Wife

Now, however, I have a series of quote/picture icons I want. *sigh*

- Pic of TARDIS that says "You stole me. And I stole you." or "I wanted to see the universe so I stole a Time Lord and I ran away."

- "Biting's excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner."

- Tenth Doctor & TARDIS "What makes you think I would ever give you back?"

- Picture of the TARDIS and Ten and/or Eleven with "My TARDIS. My Doctor."

- "Do you have a name?"
"Seven hundred years and finally he asks."

- "What does it say?"
"Pull to open."
"Yes, and what do you do?"
"I push!"

- "She's a woman and she's a TARDIS."
"Did you wish really hard?"

Moving out

So, after two years in this apartment, I'm moving out Thursday. In two years, I've accumulated, among many sundry things:

- a fish tank
- 2 dressers
- another bookcase
- a kitchen hutch
- a couch
- a tv center
- a mushroom chair
- an arm chair
- boxes upon boxes and bags upon bags of BOOKS!

We've slowly been taking boxes and bags and stuff back to my parents home for the last three weeks. Yesterday we loaded a TON of boxes and bags. Today went most of the furniture and almost a dozen storage tubs. The only two peices of furniture left are the mushroom chair and the tv center cause those are technically Angela's and she's coming down Thursday to get them.

Tonight I'm going to sweep/mop/wipe down the bathroom, finish my dishes and then sweep/mop/wipe down the kitchen, and sweep/mop my bedroom. Tomorrow, all I'll have left is the living room, which is currently filled with random things that were hiding behind or under various peices of furniture. This means tomorrow evening, after loading the jeep, I'll essentially be out of the apartment in every way but physically. :)

Song Suggestion help for a video for my sisters graduation?

So, my baby sister is graduating from High School in about three weeks (OMG!) and I've decided to make a picture slide-show of the munchkin using any and ALL pictures I can find (including ALL the ones of her looking dorky--:D). Anyway, I'm getting the pictures easily enough but I'm now trying to find songs to use. I don't just want the one song, I'm gonna WMM several into a medely of sorts. I already have one song chosen, that's gonna contain pictures of her and me (Pinky and the Brain, if you were wondering ;)) but I'm looking for suggestions for other songs. Funny, emotional, upbeat, slow, it doesn't matter as long as it kinda fits with graduation/growing up/sisterly bond.

If you do have suggestions, links to song downloads would also be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Doctor Who Experience - IMAGE HEAVY

So, in part II of my England Picspams, you get my trip to the Doctor Who Experience in London! The beginning was fun, as you got to take part in your own "Adventure" with the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith filmed special scenes for it). The rest was props/costumes. It was awesome. :D

Set the controls to random. Mystery tour! Outside that door could be any planet, anywhere, anywhen, in the whole wide— Are you all right? )

I'm BACK! - The British Museum - IMAGE HEAVY

I got back into Colorado at 7:30pm last night as I ended up with an half hour delay due to the rain in LA (I feel for everyone there--I was only there two hours but it was INSANE!). I got home about 10:30pm and didn't even unpack, I just Passed. Out.

I then woke up at 6:30am. Go figure.

Anyway, England was absolutely amazing! Some people have probably already seen some of the pictures on my facebook but I posted only a few as I was waiting till I got back home to go through them all. Now, however, I've gone through most of them and have about 250 I'll be printing out and sticking in a photo album. I'm not posting all of them but I thought some of you on my flist might like to see some.

I'm going to put this in separate posts to help with length and the image loads. First up, our trip to the British Museum, then the Doctor Who Experience in London, followed by Historical Tourist Sights in London, my day trip to Cardiff, Wales, and finally, Glastonbury Tor and Caerphilly Castle and Wells Cathedral.

That's the plan, anyway.

The British Museum, Home of the Rosetta Stone )

There were other sections but you could visit different parts every day for a week and still not have seen everything they have. Since we only had an afternoon, we spent our entire visit in the two sections I was most interested in (Daniel's insistance, not mine).

Not that I'm complaining...

Oh, boy. England tomorrow (well, technically, in two days since its an overnight flight but I leave at noon tomorrow so...)

I have very little actually packed, as I have a midterm in about...three hours. Mom is picking me up at 2:30, we're getting my hair trimmed as my split ends have split ends, gonna go get another memory card for my camera plus batteries for my MP3 player and possibly more graph paper cause, you know, ten hours on a plane and I'm a night owl. After that...back home to properly pack and, you know, panic. :P

I also have to remember to print out my itinerary so I'm not completely lost when I get there.

Also? Daniel has a "surprise" for me on Sunday. He has a horrible poker face, however, and his "hints" should be in giant neon letters, they're so obvious.

- We have to be at a certain place at 2.
- I have to be in clothes I want to be photographed in
- Its Doctor Who themed ("Bow-ties are cool" was one of the "hints")
- He gave me a quote about "outside the doors we could be any planet, anywhere, anywhen..."

See what I mean about his horrible hints? ;)

For those who don't get it, the Doctor Who Experience opened in London last month. :D

Pictures will be posted when I get back. Have a good Spring Break everyone!

I met a fan... >.> <.

So, I went over to my friend Kristi's house to borrow her Doctor Who S5 DVD's. And we got to talking, she brought out her DW magazine, you know, fun times. Well, then, out comes her roommate Bernita and she joins the conversation.

And somehow it turns to ships in Doctor Who (don't ask me how, I think we were discussing Donna and then...ships *shrugs*). So we're talking and we have so many of the same and Kristi, who's the one who got me INTO Doctor Who is just sitting there shaking her head. And then, and THEN!

Bernita: Oh, you know, I read a fic where, it was a Doctor Who cross with Glee, and Rachel's two gay dads were Ten and Jack."
*Jade stares, thinking,* It can't be. No way.
Bernita: Uh huh and it was so cute!
Jade: What website was it on?
Bernita: Fanfiction.net, I thin--no, wait, no, I'm not--
Jade: Twisting the Hellmouth?
Bernita: Yeah, I think so!
Jade: By Jaded?
Bernita: Possibly, something like that.
Jade: With Butterfly Kisses and Amazing as the two songs?
Bernita: Yeah, you've read it too!
Jade: I, um, I wrote it. I'm Jaded.
*Bernita gapes and Kristi starts laughing.
Bernita: Really?
Jade: I --uh huh. I'm writing Shaken, Not Stirred right now.
Bernita: I'm reading that one too! *lurches forward* I'm gonna hug you now.
*Kristi falls off her stool, still laughing*

OMG! That's never happened to me before! I've pointed people towards my fic after meeting them, telling em my penname and stuff, but I've never actually had someone have read and reviewed my stuff before I met them!
