Then & Now: A Study of Religion in American Pop Culture
One of my professors told us that if any of us could logically get Glee into one of our term papers, he'd give us five extra credit points. Technically, this is for another class but...HEE!
Then & Now: A Study of Religion in American Pop Culture
Rough thesis/outline
From the very beginning of the United States, religion has been a founding principle of the nation and as such, has appeared in every media outlet we've created. From the “History of the Miraculous Apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe in 1531” to the recent episode of Glee, “Grilled Cheesus,” religion has been an integral part of our popular culture. Though the main media of the nations has changed, religion and the freedom to express our religion is as much part of our everyday lives now as it was in the sixteen and seventeen hundreds.
Section One:
“Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” compared/contrasted with 7th Heaven (different viewpoints on how God should be viewed—angry or benevolent).
Section Two:
“History of the Miraculous Apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe in 1531” compared/contrasted with Glee's “Grilled Cheesus” episode (religion is shown in many forms)
Section Three:
“A Narrative of the Captivity & Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson” compared/contrasted with “Joan of Arcadia” (the belief that God only gives you as much as He knows you can handle)
In other news? 24 hours after I began the WoW update patch, its at 71% completed. *facepalms*
